Unmanned Aerial Vehicle. Drones are part of the class UAV, their many uses are indisputable and are a common thing to see nowadays. Are they the future? Yes. Drones have many capabilities, but the number one thing is that they don\u2019t require a person to be on or inside the object itself. People could pilot the contraption from miles away. Most use them as toys or other forms of entertainment, but the question is fairly simple. What could we do with this newfound technology?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently, most forms of upgrades being made to drones are the size. Scientists wish to decrease the size of drones to increase the number of them in one place, so they currently look to other aerial things that move in \u201cswarms\u201d. Bees. Bees offer a plethora of possible designs to scientists. After all, bees are one of the most successful flying animals in the entirety of nature. The idea of drone swarms is to better aid those who need it by offering more numbers to compensate for size. An example: Argentine ants are the weakest in their environment of other more powerful ants, yet they are able to take over the other ant colonies using their secret weapon. Sheer number. Let\u2019s say for the sake of simplicity that small drones can carry half the weight as normal ones. The normal ones take more space and can\u2019t be grouped together, so it carries the load by itself. The swarm of smaller ones carries the load much more efficiently because the load is split between all of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I know I may be DRONEing on(Yes, I know. It was a horrible pun.), but we have yet to cover the last topic. What are we going to do with these drones? The current hope is that they could be used for a more efficient package transport system, especially during times like now, where a human touching a package could transfer bacteria. Drones, however, won\u2019t need to worry about these flaws. They aren\u2019t living things, and can\u2019t transport as much bacteria as biotic ones. That being said, please do not touch anything non-living, they could transfer bacteria, even though it isn\u2019t as much as living things. Drones could drastically change search-and-rescue operations. Acting as flares, or sifting through debris to find any trapped people. Drones have many purposes. How are we going to use them? Well. We\u2019ll see in the future.
